The Simple Theory Of Japanese Music Scales
We musicians are always on a quest on how to sound "different", "original", "new". And so we are often under pressure to learn new things and make them sound good too!
Of course, the ideal situation is when we find something that sounds 'new' and at the same time is easy to play. There are not many ideas like that around - after all, some of the most interesting things are quite difficult to play - but today we see something that is very easy and very new.
Or at least it's 'new' if you are a western musician.
Today we learn a set of Japanese scales, one better sounding than the other. We see how they are built, and how we can make many more. And if you are like me, you will love that Miyako-Bushi scale.
And now that you know what the scales are and what options do you have, you can also check out this other video that shows you how to use bends and slides to create a more authentic oriental effect to these scales.
As many things, the tricks in this second video are just a starting point. You don't have to copy them exactly as they are, rather you should make them your own.
Have fun with the Japanese scales! And if you want to know much more about scales and how to use them on guitar to create interesting music, great effects, original sounds, then look no further than the Master of the Modes guitar course that contains everything you need to know about scales and modes and how to use them on your guitar. Have fun!
