How To PRACTICE Music Theory For Creativity And Versatility
You probably think that practicing guitar looks like of the things:
Learning a lick/exercise and repeating endlessly trying to go faster and faster
Learning a solo and play it over and over until is sounds “like the record”
Start a backing track and fool around.
Yes, all of the above do barely qualify as “guitar practice”. Well, these are not the most efficient or effective things you can do, but they are something, I suppose.
But, for instance none of the things above does anything about your creativity
“But it’s impossible to practice creativity” you may shout from the back of the audience.
And I’d answer: people who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those of us who are doing it ;-)
The problem here is that unless you SEE with your eyes how to practice in a way that puts together technique, music theory, creativity, versatility, musicality, etc… then you have no idea how it is done.
So I am about to show you how this looks like… but I must warn you.
Do not click on that link unless:
- You have your guitar at the ready (this video will make no sense unless you follow along)
- You are willing to follow instructions
- you are willing to watch the whole video from beginning to end especially when I’m telling you to do something “too simple”.
Yup, you have no idea how many people watch the first minute, think “this is too simple”, jump over a few minutes… then they go “this is too complex”. Arghh. Friggin’ start again from the beginning and follow the instructions!! Ready? Here we go:
