GUITAR Theory And Piano Theory Are Not The Same
“In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different”.
The quote above is So. Very. True. Of music theory.
For instance, you’d think that music theory is the same for all instruments.
“Theory is theory” they tell you.
Well, in theory they are right.
In practice, not so much.
The vast majority of good resources on music theory (for instance, books) are explicitly made by people who play piano who are talking to other people who play piano.
If you don’t play piano, it’s really hard for you to follow what they are doing.
That’s why most guitar players find theory “boring”: they are trying to understand something that is not in their language
So you know what I’m doing in this video? I’m showing you where we have it better than piano players, and how we can leverage that to our advantage.
And if you are a piano player… it’s going to be even better for you:
P.S. Indeed one of the reasons my Complete Chord Mastery guitar course is so successful is because I took ideas that were available only as ‘piano theory’ and I translated them into ‘guitar theory’. If anything, I’m surprised how nobody thought of that before me…
P.P.S. And that’s why my website is called “Music Theory For Guitar”.
