guitar tablature

Recently I have heard many guitar teachers - especially on YouTube and other social media - proclaiming that using guitar tablature is "bad for you".

I respectfully disagree. Tablature has its uses, and it's a great instrument for us guitar players.

So this time I'm going to stick my neck out - the topic is apparently quite controversial - and explain exactly why every reason they gave you to not use tablature does not hold water.

Next time someone will tell you that you should not use 'tabs'... you will know exactly what to answer.

In the meantime we are also going to discover some music that you are not familiar with and take a journey back to the Baroque era of music... and yes, this is all relevant to how tablature is not at all bad for you.

Watch the video below and you will get a different (hopefully better!) perspective on topics like reading music, improvisation, and even music history

Another related question is: do you need to read music notation to study music theory?

Answer: no. You can learn a lot of music theory without knowing how to read a note. If you are just getting started learning theory, then the playlist below is an excellent introduction to theory for guitar starting from zero, and it goes surprisingly far.

If instead you are NOT just starting, then you are ready for the next level in your music evolution. Have a look at the Complete Chord Mastery guitar course that will take you to a full mastery of harmony and chords on the guitar, and will show you how professional can take a simple pop song or an uber-complex jazz standard, and make both of them sound great.
